Abstract: Basic algorithms for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations have reached a significant state of maturity. Still, they require large CPU times to converge for large scale applications, even on supercomputers. An acceleration of proprietary CFD implementations by means of recent many-core hardware can be considered to be a significant advantage for CFD software vendors. However, it is likely that the core algorithms and data structures of an industrial CFD software have been implemented 10 to 25 years ago and are not designed for many-core hardware. Among other factors, this makes a many-core acceleration challenging.

In this talk we give an introduction to the application of recent many-core hardware for CFD calculations and discuss a promising approach for a many-core acceleration of a commercial structured flow solver. [hide abstract]
